Appraiser

A person who evaluates property in an official capacity.

Easement

A right, such as a right of way, afforded a person to make limited use of another's real property.

Eminent domain

The right of the government to take private property for public use, the 5 th Amendment of the US Constitution requires that just compensation be made.

Right of way

The right to pass over property owned by another party. The strip of land over which facilities such as highways, railroads, or power lines are built.

Right of Way Agent

The person who negotiates with the property owner the purchase of property and provides relocation assistance for public improvement projects. The right of way agent has limited authority on how much they can offer. If they are unable to reach an agreement with the property owner, a condemnation suit is filed.
