Be Involved

Being involved in community activities makes us better – both individually and collectively. The Safe Sober Prom Night Program gives an opportunity for students to be involved. The 2010 T-shirt and video design contests are underway.

Being involved is an important element of the Safe Sober Prom Night Program. Participation influences others. This positive peer pressure is one of the founding hallmarks of our program.

Simply being involved is a form of leadership. Even if it is quiet leadership, being involved serves as an example for others. Being an example is one of the highest forms of leadership.

Our Lewis & Daggett team invites the students to be involved in the program and actively participate. Our youth have such a tremendous amount of talent and being involved in the T-shirt and video design contests are a great way to show their creativity. These contests are unique projects in our area, and nationally, and one that a lot of students enjoy. The design of the T-shirts and videos have progressed in recent years with the use of technology. Design and computer technology has made the contest an accessible possibility for a broad range of students.

Students can learn more about the T-shirt design contest here, and the video design contest here. The contests began last week and run through November 20. The T-shirt design winner, in addition to the $500.00 scholarship, will have the winning design on more than 15,000 Safe Sober Prom Night T-shirts next Spring, and will be acknowledged on the shirts. The video design contest winner will be highlighted in different forms on the Internet, and may be used in television promotional efforts.

Being involved also applies to teachers, staff, administrators, and our whole community. Adult leadership is key to making the program work. School faculty and adult community leadership demonstrates how much we truly care about our students.

Being involved with teenagers is so important because it says to them that they are worth it, that they are important, and that we are dedicated to them and their learning. By caring we help our youth build healthy self-esteem. Encouraging their participation in positive projects shows that we are committed, too.

The whole Safe Sober Prom Night Program is an example of "being involved" and requires a lot of participation from the community, the law firm’s attorneys, our staff, visiting motivational speakers, school administrators, teachers, and volunteers. Safe Sober Prom Night has become an example for the community, and shows our involvement and passion for our youth. Further, encouraging and developing our youth ensures the quality of our communities for years to come.
