Good Nutrition Month

November is Good Nutrition Month! Perhaps immediately following Halloween and heading into the holidays is a good time to brush up on our nutrition. Please join our Lewis & Daggett Team as we work on our nutrition.

Nutrition and physical activity are two keys to improved health. We hope to offer some simple tips in addition to what we previously discussed in Healthy Nutrition. Drink lots of water and limit sugared drinks. Eat lot of vegetables and grains instead of fried or fatty foods. Enjoy dairy products, but choose low fat or non-fat.

Limiting junk food from our diets is an essential step in improving nutrition. Following Halloween it's a good idea to put all of that candy in a freezer bag and save it for a rainy day. There's no need to live off your stash with the holidays around the corner - and more treats on the way. Give yourself a few weeks' breather from junk food. See if you can hold out until Thanksgiving.

Take the steps towards better daily nutrition and health. It is never too late to make a change for the better. Make smart choices at every meal and do something each day to be more active. Smart eating habits combined with physical activity lead to better health.

Good Nutrition Month reinforces the importance of nutrition and physical activity as key components of a healthy lifestyle. Following good nutrition recommendations, dietary guidelines, and the Food Guide Pyramid as the framework for daily food choices that can be personalized to each individual's food preferences, nutritional needs, health status, and lifestyle.

Being more active and less sedentary helps control weight and lower risk for many chronic diseases. For example, cleaning the house instead of watching TV burns twice the calories. In addition to being more active, try to get about 30-60 minutes of exercise, like brisk walking, each day.

Managing your weight plays a vital role in achieving and maintaining good health and quality of life. Carrying excess weight increases risk for health problems. The good news is that healthy eating and regular physical activity make it easier to achieve lifelong weight management and long-term health!
