The Winston-Salem law firm of Lewis & Daggett is sponsoring a series of speaking engagements featuring Robert Anastas, well-known motivational speaker and national founder of what was originally Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD). He will address the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education as well as juniors and seniors at 10 area high schools next week.

Anastas, who was drafted as a quarterback by the then Boston Patriots and earned All-American honors in both football and hockey in College, will speak to the Board of Education Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Starting Monday morning, he will address students at 10 area high schools. His speaking schedule, will run through Friday. In 1991, Lewis & Daggett founded Safe Sober Prom Night, a program now active in more than 400 high schools in North and South Carolina. According to Attorney Michael Lewis, “Lewis & Daggett has forged a dynamic partnership with Anastas that is dedicated to educating our young people about the devastating effects of alcohol and drugs.” Attorney David D. Daggett will introduce Anastas at the Board of Education meeting as well as each of the scheduled high school appearances.

Anastas founded SADD along with a group of 15 students when he was a teacher and hockey coach at Wayland (Mass.) High School in 1981. He started the organization, now known as Students Against Destructive Decisions, after two of his students were killed in drunk driving crashes.

He is a member of the Board of Directors for the National Commission for the Prevention of Alcoholism and Drug Dependency, and the National Commission Against Drunk Driving.
